Performance marketing is not a channel — it is a standard: every campaign must be accountable to a measurable outcome. Most accounts fail that standard not because the ads are bad, but because the strategy underneath them was never written down.

1. Start With the Outcome, Not the Channel

“We should be on Meta” is not a strategy. Define the business outcome first — leads, sales, booked calls — then the KPI that represents it, and only then the channel best suited to deliver it.

2. Assign Each Channel a Job

  • Google Ads captures existing demand — people already searching for what you offer.
  • Meta Ads creates demand — reaching the right audience before they search.
  • Retargeting on both closes the loop for people who showed intent but didn’t convert.

When each channel has one clear job, budget allocation becomes a decision instead of an argument.

3. Fix Measurement Before Scaling

Scaling spend on broken tracking just scales the confusion. Verify conversion events, reconcile platform numbers against reality, and only then increase budgets.

4. Run a Disciplined Loop

  1. 1Research the audience and their intent.
  2. 2Launch with a clear hypothesis.
  3. 3Measure against the KPI, not vanity metrics.
  4. 4Analyze what the data actually says.
  5. 5Test one meaningful change at a time.
  6. 6Optimize and document the learning.
